Congratulations to Drs. Michael Changaris, Spencer Crooks, and Shiyu Chang!

IHPTP teamLast weekend, Drs. Michael Changaris, Spencer Crooks, and Shiyu Chang, members of the Wright Institute鈥檚 Integrated Health Psychology Training Program team, gave a presentation at the California Psychological Association鈥檚 2024 Annual Convention. The presentation, titled 鈥淒riving Population Health Through Primary Care Partnerships: Case Study ADHD Clinic Development,鈥 was a huge success!

鈥淢any expressed that the work of Dr. Spencer Crooks and Dr. Shiyu Zhang had a powerful and inspiring impact on their understanding of ADHD care and integrated health services,鈥 shared Dr. Changaris. 鈥淏y exploring ADHD as a guide for developing change-based processes, we demonstrated how primary care partnerships can truly drive population health improvements.鈥

Obituary: Dr. Michael Lerner

, a 1977 graduate of the Wright Institute's Clinical Psychology Program, passed away on August 28th in Berkeley, California at the age of eighty-one.

In their article honoring his life, The Washington Post described him as "a rabbi, psychologist and political activist who merged Judaism and progressive thought as the founding editor of Tikkun magazine, becoming a prominent if sometimes polarizing leader of the Jewish left."

Congratulations to Dr. Tuazon!

Dr. Anna Tuazon, a 2013 graduate of the Wright Institute鈥檚 Clinical Psychology program, was named Best Newspaper Columnist by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) for her column called 鈥淪afe Spaces.鈥

鈥淭uazon said she considered it her role to help create spaces for 鈥榰nderserved perspectives that are not always in the headlines,鈥 and to provide informed choices for Filipinos in pursuit of the 鈥榞ood life.鈥欌

Student Spotlight: Elizabeth Carty

CartyElizabeth Carty, a third year student in the Wright Institute鈥檚 Counseling Psychology Program, was born and raised in Washington, D.C.. The youngest of three children, she had a brother seven years older and a sister just eighteen months her senior. Elizabeth attended a private school for her K-12 education. 鈥淭he social and emotional support I got at school saved me,鈥 Elizabeth reflected. For her undergraduate studies, Elizabeth attended in Connecticut. 鈥淚 majored in Latin American history to expand my worldview and develop my writing and analytical skills,鈥 she explained.

Alumni Spotlight: Hira Kissana

Hira LibraryHira Kissana, a 2023 graduate of the Wright Institute鈥檚 Counseling Psychology Program, was born and raised in Vallejo, California. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Pakistan before their children were born and Hira grew up with very strong family bonds. 鈥淚 had the greatest parents growing up,鈥 she shared proudly. 鈥淢y mother and father are my absolute heroes, and my siblings are my best friends.鈥 Hira is the eldest daughter of the family, with one older brother and three younger sisters.

Lamia鈥淒o the work that gives you the wisdom to ask the right questions,鈥 advised Dr. Mary Lamia, faculty member in the Wright Institute鈥檚 Clinical Psychology Program. 鈥淩ead all you can, discover what others are saying, and do not be afraid to critique it. Being informed is very important to our work.鈥 Throughout her life, Dr. Lamia has demonstrated her steadfast determination in pursuing and sharing knowledge.

Alumni Spotlight: Dr. Joshua Coleman

Coleman鈥溾嬧婸sychology is a great field and is always growing,鈥 reflected Dr. Joshua Coleman, a 1989 graduate of the Wright Institute鈥檚 Clinical Psychology Program. 鈥淚t鈥檚 impossible for us to learn everything that would be good for us to know, but we should try.鈥 Since his time at the Wright Institute, Dr. Coleman has established himself as an expert in the field of family estrangement through his publications, media appearances, and work in private practice.

Congratulations to Lexie Thomas!

Lexie ThomasLexie Thomas, a fourth year student in the Wright Institute's Clinical Psychology Program, won the Diversity Poster Award at the Annual Conference in Scottsdale, AZ last month.

According to the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology, "this annual award recognizes the best poster presented at AACN on a diversity-related topic regardless of that individual鈥檚 status (e.g., trainee, faculty, etc.). The award winner will be chosen primarily based upon the quality of research and its likelihood to impact the fields of neuropsychology and diversity/multiculturalism."

Obituary: Dr. Doris Allen

Dr. Doris Allen, a 1986 graduate of the Wright Institute's Clinical Psychology Program, passed away on June 11th in Oakland, California at the age of 97.

In their article honoring her life, the New York Times described Dr. Allen as "an Army intelligence analyst during the Vietnam War whose warning about the impending attacks in early 1968 by North Vietnamese and Viet Cong forces that became known as the Tet offensive was ignored by higher-ups."

Congratulations to Mariana Rodriguez!

Mariana Rodriguez, a second year student in the Wright Institute's Clinical Psychology Program, won the (ACPA) Graduate Student Dissertation Award this year. The award is "aimed at supporting graduate student dissertation research that promotes Multicultural issues and social justice."

Mariana has earned a cash prize from ACPA and a mention in the CPA Psychologist in the ACPA update blurb. Congratulations Mariana!
